First Aid Kit is a Swedish folk duo composed of sisters Johanna (b. 1990) and Klara (b. 1993) Söderberg, whose close vocal harmonies and woodsy, folk-influenced songwriting take influence from the likes of Fleet Foxes and Joanna Newsom. Hailing from Enskede, a southern suburb of Stockholm, the teenaged siblings began composing songs in 2007. Their 2008 YouTube video cover of the song Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by the Fleet Foxes spread their name rapidly on the Internet, the sisters subsequently appeared alongside Fleet Foxes performing the song in a concert in Holland.
Starting out in 2007, the sisters sent a demo tape of their home-recorded Tangerine to Swedish radio on which it later enjoyed airplay in the summer. Later that year the duo signed to Rabid Records, a label co-owned by the Swedish electronic duo The Knife. April 2008 saw the release of the debut EP Drunken Trees in Sweden. The London-based Wichita Records label reissued the EP one year later, bolstering its track list with a reverent cover of Fleet Foxes Tiger Mountain Peasant Song and videos of three songs performed live in a Swedish forest. During First Aid Kits early years the duo had a collection of songs posted on the social networking site Myspace, one of which was Cross Oceans, a re-recording of which later appeared on Drunken Trees.
2010 saw the release of their debut album The Big Black & The Blue which was followed by an extensive tour (around 100 shows) of the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Europe, headlining the Thursday night at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona. While playing a concert in Nashville the duo was approached by Jack White who after seeing their show requested them to record a single for his Third Man Records series. In February 2011 the duo collaborated with Bright Eyes during their performance of Lua, it was later revealed that their upcoming album will be produced by Mike Mogis.

In the hearts of men, in the arms of mothers, and the parts they play to convince others. We know what we're doing. We're doing it right. Reading books on the subject but then you may still be surprised by your tone over the phone to your sister while waiting in line at the shopping-mart just outside of town.
In the hands of teachers, in the books you read, the things you say when we've lost the lead. I still try to speak up but my voice won't make a sound and I thought it all over too many times. Well there is no use and the lights are all out. I just give it up and I walk home past the shopping mall that's just closing down.
La, da, da, da...
We tell yourself you are must be what you'll be. Who's to say who is who and what is what if you simply don't agree? Now, time will come to claim you and it will have its way. Don't make no mistakes, and don't regret, don't waste the time that is left in the knew it all with a goddamn smile.
La, la, la...
In the hearts of men
In the arms of mothers
And the parts we play
To convince others
Oh the bitter winds are coming in and I'm already missing the summer
Star comes cold but I've been told I was born to endure this kind of weather
When it's you i find like a ghost in my mind
I feed it and i gladly wear the crown
Chorus:
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
and you'll be my gram and my Johnny too
you know I'm not asking much of you
just sing little darling sing with me.
so much i know that things just don't' grow
if you don't bless them with your patience
and I've been there before
i held up the door for every stranger with a promise
but I'm holding back
that's the strength that i lack
every morning keeps returning at my window
and it brings me to you and i won't just pass through
but I'm not asking for a storm
Chorus:
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
and you'll be my gram and my Johnny too
you know I'm not asking much of you
just sing little darling sing with me.
And yes I'm I
You wouldn't bet
I was frightened but I held back
I need you now i don't last
2 x Chorus:
I'll be your Emmylou and I'll be your June
If you'll be my gram and my Johnny too
you know I'm not asking much of you
just sing little darling sing with me.
Just sing little darling sing with me
On our last trip to the coast
We watched the boats sail the sea
"How effortlessly they float"
You turned and said to me
And sedately I sat there
In my quiet mist of rage
How I wanted to tell you
But I was hushed by my shame
So when the waves come rolling in
Then I won't turn the tide
And in the line of fire
You'll set me aside
So go on Richard let go
And I can still remember
The laughter in a stranger's face
And the way you would tell me
To slow down my pace
See no living is that easy
No living is that fair
Of course I was going to lose you
Were you ever even there?
So when the waves come rolling in
Then I won't turn the tide
And in the line of fire
You'll set me aside
So go on Richard let go
Now the pale morning sings of forgotten things
She plays a tune for those who wish to overlook
The fact that they've been blindly deceived
By those who preach and pray and teach
But she falls short and the night explodes in laughter
But don't you come here and say I didn't warn you
About the way your world can alter
And oh how you try to command it all still
Every single time it all shifts one way or the other
And I'm a goddamn coward, but then again so are you
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Has me evading and hollering for you
And I never really knew what to do
Well I guess sometimes I wish you were a little more predictable
That I could read you just like a book
For now I can only guess what's coming next
By examining your timid smile
And the ways of the old, old winds blowing you back 'round
And I'm a goddamn fool, but then again so are you
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Has me seeking out and searching for you
And I never really knew what to do
Sometimes I wish I could find my Rosemary Hill
I'd sit there and look at the deserted lakes and I'd sing
And every once in a while I'd sing a song for you
That would rise above the mountains and the stars and the sea
And if I wanted it to it would lead you back to me
And the lion's roar, the lion's roar
Is something that I have heard before
A children's tale, the lonesome wail of a lion's roar
I met up with the king
He confessed his body was burning
I met up with the king
His body had begun to rot
And he said don't think less of me
I'm still the same man I used to be
But no one believed him
No one believed him
I once knew a pretty girl
And she was in love with the world
And she loved a young man
Who loved her body but never saw her mind
He took everything she had kept
And then he took everything else that was left
But no one believed her
No one believed her
I feel just like the king
As I fall on the muddy ground
I feel just like you gal
There's people thinking
They know something now
Well I don't know anything at all
And we mean nothing to history
Well thank God
So tell me do you believe me?
Do you believe me?
I bet you don't
I bet you won't
So you ask for my opinion well what is there to say
To be honest and just foolish won't make you want to stay
You've got to go on and get moving and I can't do that for you
Got so many plans and so much you want to do
Love is tough, time is rough
On me
Well I see you've got your bible your delusion imagery
Well I don't need your eternity or your meaning to feel free
I just live because I love to and that's enough you see
So don't come preach about morality that's just human sense to me
Love is tough, time is rough
On me
And it's one life and it's this life and it's beautiful
Love is tough, time is rough
On me
All of these ghost towns I keep travelling through
All of these traffic signs and lonesome bars blind the view
I swear I can be better
I could be more to you
But there are things that line my path
That I just had to do
If you've got visions of the past
Let them follow you down
They'll come back to you some day
And I found myself attached to this railroad track
But I'll come back to you some day
To you
To you
To you
Some day
And I remember how you told me all you wanted to do
That dream of Paris in the morning or a New York window view
I can see it now you're married and your wife is with a child
And you're all laughing in the garden and I'm lost somewhere in your mind
If you've got visions of the past
Let them follow you down
They'll come back to you some day
And I found myself attached to this railroad track
But I'll come back to you some day
To you
To you
To you
Some day
Maybe I should just turn around
Walk away
For no matter how much I really do want to stay
You know I can when it's too late
Oh I've found myself attached to this railroad track
I'll come back to you some day
To you
To you
To you
Some day
